Solar Panel Inspection & Health Check

Every clean we do already includes a quick visual check of your panels before we start. The Solar Health Check goes much further. We look at how your system is actually performing, check what’s going on underneath and around the panels, and give you a written photo report so you know exactly where your system stands.

It’s designed for homeowners who’ve noticed their output or power bill isn’t what it used to be, and want an answer rather than a guess.

What’s Included in a Solar Health Check

CheckWhat we look atWhy it matters
Output reviewWe go through your inverter app or monitoring history with you and compare recent generation against what a system your size should produce on the Sunshine CoastTells you whether you have a real performance gap, and roughly how big it is
Before-and-after output readingWhen booked with a clean, we note your system’s output before we start and again after we finishShows how much of the gap was dirt and how much might be something else
Under-panel checkGaps under the array, for nesting material, leaf build-up, droppings and signs of birds or possumsNesting material is a fire risk, and animals can damage cabling
Mounting & rackingRails, clamps and roof fixings, for corrosion, rust staining or looseningSalt air corrodes exposed metal faster on the coast
Visible cabling & conduitCable runs you can see on the roof, for UV damage, sagging, chewing or cables rubbing on the roofDamaged cabling is something to get fixed early by a licensed electrician
Panel conditionEach panel, for cracks, discolouration, delamination or burn marksEarly signs of damage can be raised with your installer while still under warranty
Shading assessmentNew shade from tree growth, extensions or neighbouring buildsOne shaded panel can pull down the output of the whole string

You get: a written report with photos of everything we checked, what we found, and what (if anything) we recommend next. If you have a warranty claim, insurance claim or are selling the house, it’s a record you can hand over.

What we don’t do: a Health Check is a non-invasive inspection. We don’t open the inverter, DC isolators or switchboard, and we don’t carry out electrical testing or repairs. If we find something that needs an electrician, we’ll tell you exactly what we saw and why, so you can pass it straight on to your installer or a licensed solar electrician.

Who Books a Health Check

  • Your output has dropped and you don’t know why. We’ll tell you whether it’s dirt, shade or something an electrician needs to look at.
  • You’ve bought a home with solar already on the roof. Find out what condition the system is in and how well it’s producing before you rely on it.
  • You’re selling. Give buyers a dated photo report showing the system is clean and in good working order.
  • It’s been a few years since anyone looked at it. Most systems are installed and then left alone. A Health Check gives you a clear picture of how yours is going.
  • After a big storm. Check for hail damage, loose fixings or debris before small issues turn into big ones.

Not sure whether you need one yet? Our guide How to Check if Your Solar Panels Are Working walks you through checking your output yourself using your inverter app.

How It Works

Common Questions

What’s the difference between a solar panel inspection and solar maintenance?

An inspection tells you what condition your system is in right now. Maintenance is the ongoing routine that keeps it that way, such as regular cleaning and monitoring. Many customers book a Health Check once, then move onto a regular cleaning schedule. See solar panel maintenance.

How often should I get a solar panel inspection?

Every 2 years is a sensible rhythm for most homes. Book one sooner after a major storm, if your output drops without explanation, or when you buy or sell a property.

Do I need to be home?

Ideally, yes, for the first 10 minutes, so we can go through your inverter app or display with you. If you can’t be there, send us screenshots of your monitoring app beforehand and we’ll work from those.

Can you fix problems you find?

If it’s cleaning, debris or nesting material, yes, usually on the same visit. Anything electrical, such as inverter faults, isolators or damaged cabling, needs a licensed electrician. We’ll document it clearly so they can quote quickly.

Will a Health Check help with a warranty or insurance claim?

It gives you dated photos and a written description of what we found, which is useful supporting evidence. The claim itself is assessed by your panel manufacturer, installer or insurer.
